Happy New Year

I know that this is a new year, and we would all like to think that all the bad and dangerous things that can happen to children will no longer happen. While we are busy making new years resolutions and overwhelming ourselves in trying to keep those same ones, the predators, kidnappers and child abusers are busy finding new ways to victimize our children, and they are busy devising ways to take away our children’s innocence. We must keep in mind that there is much to watch out for. We no longer have just Bullies, now we also have Cyber bullies. It is not only the molester that we are worried about; we now have to be concerned with human sex slave rings, and child pornography, and human trafficking. Sadly we learned that we cannot even trust police officers as 2007 sadly showed us, down to the last week when an N.Y.P.D Officer was arrested for the child abuse of a young girl.
In the last week of the year we heard of drive by shootings that hit innocent by standers who just so happened to be a child. We heard of teenage boys going to another boy’s house to shoot him, and instead shot his 11 year old brother in his chest when he opened the door.
People do not fall asleep. Our children are being targeted in every way imaginable, and the only places they are safe in are in the confines of their own home, and guess what? Even at home they have to be told not to open doors without first finding out who it really is at the door.
